CUSTOM RENOVATION & EXTENSION
This extensive renovation and extension in the Queensland Hinterland reimagines an existing home as a contemporary, family-focused retreat that embraces its spectacular coastal outlooks. Designed to enhance both lifestyle and connection to the surrounding landscape, the project transforms the residence into a light-filled sanctuary with expansive views stretching towards the beach. The renovation and extension introduce generous open-plan living areas, improved flow between indoor and outdoor spaces, and a strong connection to the natural surroundings.
Carefully selected finishes, warm textures, and a restrained material palette contribute to a calm and timeless atmosphere, while large openings maximise natural light and frame the sweeping hinterland and coastal views. Together, these elements create a sophisticated yet relaxed home tailored to modern family life.
MEADAN APPROACH
This Hinterland renovation presented the kind of project we thrive on—where ambitious design meets complex technical challenges.
Expansive 3m-high glass doors, full-height windows, and intricate stone and textured finishes, including curved elements and integrated planter boxes, all while maintaining structural integrity and visual harmony. From the very beginning, it was clear that achieving these design ambitions would require careful planning, precise engineering, and hands-on coordination
Complex steel work was meticulously engineered to support the large glazing and cantilevered features, ensuring both safety and elegance.
Site access added another layer of complexity; cranes and carefully sequenced installations were essential to bring the design to life without compromise.
Featuring micro cement surfaces and dry-stacked stone that provide texture, depth, and a sense of contemporary warmth. Every finish and detail was carefully considered to create a home that is both durable and aesthetically engaging.
Designed for family, the layout thoughtfully separates living zones to meet diverse needs. A private study allows work and focus without interruption, while the main living and dining areas open seamlessly to outdoor spaces overlooking the pool. These connections blur the line between inside and out, making the most of the Hinterland setting and beach views.
The result is a home that balances family functionality, sophisticated materiality, and a strong connection to the Queensland Hinterland landscape—demonstrating how collaboration between client, designer, and builder can elevate a property into a modern sanctuary that supports both everyday life and entertaining.
“This project represents what we value most at Meadan—close collaboration, ambitious design, and thoughtful execution. Working alongside a highly engaged client and interior designer allowed us to push boundaries while maintaining clarity and control throughout the build. Despite the technical challenges, including complex steelwork, large-scale glazing, and difficult site access, the end result is a home that feels effortless and refined. It’s a project we’re incredibly proud of and one that truly reflects our approach to building.”
