Design & Build - Custom Home
Set within the bushland surrounds of Eumundi’s historic hinterland and just a short walk to town, this home is a contemporary interpretation of a modern Queensland farmhouse, grounded by a dark, tactile material palette and a strong connection to landscape. From the outset, the project was led by interior design outcomes, shaped by the client’s intimate understanding of spatial flow, materiality, and lived experience. The result is a home that balances modern form with rural sensibility—architecturally bold yet emotionally warm, where interior design, landscape, and structure work seamlessly to create a truly immersive hinterland retreat.
Natural light floods the interior, reinforcing a feeling of calm and connection, with the dam and Australian native planting forming a constant visual and experiential backdrop. Every major space is oriented to embrace the outlook, ensuring the landscape is not just a view, but an integral part of daily life.
“Working with Meadan was an exceptional experience. From the beginning, they understood both the challenges of the site and the importance of our vision. Their ability to integrate the existing shed, respond to the slope, and manage the complexities of access with confidence gave us complete trust in the process. The result is a home that feels deeply connected to its landscape and incredibly resolved — we couldn’t have achieved this outcome without their expertise and commitment.”

Our Approach
We saw the inherent challenges of the site as opportunities to enrich the architectural outcome, drawing on deep experience in regional and hinterland projects to deliver a resolved and highly considered response.
Rather than treating the existing shed as a limitation, Meadan recognised its potential as a powerful design driver. The structure was thoughtfully absorbed into the architectural language of the home, informing both spatial planning and material expression. This strategic integration not only reduced unnecessary demolition and waste but also anchored the new build to the site’s history, contributing to a layered and authentic sense of place.
The site’s pronounced slope was addressed through a sensitive, pavilion-based approach that works with the natural topography rather than against it. By breaking the home into two distinct volumes arranged in an L-shaped configuration, Meadan minimised cut and fill while allowing the building to step comfortably across the landscape. This approach enhanced spatial flow, improved environmental performance, and unlocked expansive outlooks across the dam and surrounding bushland.
With access to the site constrained, early planning and construction foresight were critical. Meadan’s familiarity with complex hinterland builds informed a pragmatic and efficient construction strategy, ensuring materials, trades, and sequencing were carefully coordinated from the outset. This proactive approach reduced disruption, maintained build quality, and ensured the project progressed smoothly despite logistical limitations.
Through strategic planning, technical expertise, and a collaborative design process, Meadan transformed site challenges into defining features of the project. The result is a home that feels effortless and grounded, where architecture, landscape, and context are seamlessly interwoven—reflecting Meadan’s ability to deliver refined outcomes on complex sites.
