Is a granny flat right for me?

A granny flat is a great option when you want to maximise living space and property value on your block without altering the existing structure of your home. Granny flats are becoming increasingly popular, because they give extra space for growing or extended family members or bring in additional revenue if they are rented.
There are some minimum requirements for building a granny flat on your property. You’ll need:
• Residential zoned land
• A block size of at least 450 square metres and block width of at least 12 metres.
The maximum permitted floor area of a granny flat is 60 square metres and the maximum height is 3.8 metres. Regulations permit only one granny flat on a property.

PRE CONSTRUCTION

STEP 1

We visit your proposed site to conduct a feasibility analysis and determine the best opportunity for the block. We’ll let you know whether a granny flat is possible on your property and if so, we’ll discuss layout and design ideas, along with budget considerations. Choose from our wide range of granny flat designs, for 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms. Our designs vary in size from 39.2 square metres to 60 square metres. We can also change these designs to suit your backyard area or customise the floor plan for your block if that’s what you prefer.


STEP 2

We prepare a quote for your granny flat in the form of a comprehensive building contract, based on your site and your design requirements.

CONSTRUCTION

STEP 3

Once you have signed the contract and paid the Deposit fee, we finalise the full plans and submit them to the relevant authorities for approval.
At this time, you visit our showroom, where our dedicated internal staff will assist you to make all the selections for your new granny flat, including kitchen, floor coverings, bathroom and kitchen accessories and electrical layout.


STEP 4

Your Site Manager will give you a construction plan and answer your questions. Then we start to build! During construction of your new granny flat, we’ll keep you updated on the progress – and we’ll also make sure we complete the work with minimal interruption to you.


STEP 5

Your Construction Supervisor will walk you through your new granny flat and talk you through everything you need to know and identify anything that might need addressing.

HANDOVER

STEP 6

We do a final inspection with you to ensure that any concerns have been addressed.

STEP 7

We hand you the keys to your new granny flat!
